| As from 1st April 2004, the government
has given Local Authorities the power to reduce the amount of
discount they award in respect of second and empty properties.
Luton Borough Council has decided to reduce the amount of discount
they award. The categories, which are effected, are listed below;
Second Homes
Properties that were previously awarded a 50% reduction, because
they are not the sole or main residence of an individual will
now receive a 10% reduction in the charge.
Empty Properties
Properties that previously had a 50% reduction on the grounds
that the property was unoccupied but furnished will now also
only receive a 10% reduction.
Properties, which are unoccupied and unfurnished
These fall into two categories.
Unfurnished and unoccupied in between letting periods.
Unfurnished and unoccupied after receiving the initial 6-month
charge free period.
THE ABOVE TWO CLASSES WILL NO LONGER RECEIVES
ANY REDUCTION.
